SIGMAA-ARTS Fish T-shirt Large
$17.95
This T-shirt commemorates the formation of a new SIGMAA (Special Interest Group of the Mathematics Association of America) dealing with mathematics and the arts. The graphic, by Douglas Dunham, is based on the fish pattern in M.C. Escher's "Circle Limit III" print, in which fish swim along equidistant curves in the hyperbolic plane. In Escher's version, four fish meet at a right fin, while five fish meet in this version.

SIGMAA-ARTS Polygons T-shirt Large

This T-shirt also commemorates the formation of the new SIGMAA on mathematics and the arts. This graphic, by Douglas Dunham, is based on the uniform tiling (4.5.4.5) of the hyperbolic plane with squares and pentagons subdivided into isosceles triangles. It was inspired by patterns of the Australian hooked rug maker Tony Bomford and a combinatorial pattern by H.S.M. Coxeter that provided the color symmetry. There are six "bright" colors and six shades of tan. Each bright color surrounding a pentagon is paired with the shade of tan not contained within that pentagon.
