Robert Fathauer
Robert Fathauer is a now part-time research scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, specializing in semiconductor materials. He uses tessellations, a type of two-dimension pattern, to create puzzles that are both fun and educational. He also creates works of art based on tessellations - both traditional prints and also digital (computer) art.
Tessellations and fractals are possibly the two branches of mathematics with the
greatest esthetic appeal. Dr. Fathauer is particularly interested in combining
fractals and tessellations, a union that has only been touched on by other artists.
Over time he has created numerous geometric fractal tessellations, and he has
adapted some of these designs to lifelike tiles in the spirit of M.C. Escher.
