kaleidoscope From the Greek words kalos ("beautiful"), eïdos ("form"), and skopeïn ("to view"), the kaleidoscope is an optical device containing mirrors that create a symmetrical pattern through multiple reflections. Kaleidoscopes often contain an "object case", in which various objects to be viewed, such as pieces of colored glass, are placed. The kaleidoscope was invented in 1816 by Sir David Brewster.
