Scorpion, Diamondback & Phoenix
The underlying design for this print is based on the famous Penrose tiles, which only form nonrepeating patterns. Penrose tiles were discovered around the time of Escher's death, and were hence unknown to him. Prof. Roger Penrose himself also made an Eschereque design based on these tiles, with a chicken motif. The design shown here could be extended to cover the infinite mathematical plane. "Scorpion, Diamondback, and Phoenix" is a limited edition of 48 screen prints, hand printed by the artist in 1993. The image size is approximately 10" x 10".
