Dick Termes

Dick Termes is a painter unlike any other; he paints on spheres. These globular canvases hang from ceiling motors. Each one is a complete world. As you watch them float by at one revolution per minute, you see north, south, east, west, and up and down. It's as if you were inside a transparent sphere and painted everything you saw around you on the inside of the sphere. If you then stepped outside the sphere, you could see the world you had created. The results look like large reflective bubbles. Some are realistic, some are geometric, and some are surrealistic. Dick Termes uses illusion and impossible realities to make each piece unique. He has painted over 150 of these revolutionary art pieces, created using acrylic paint on gesso-coated polyethylene spheres. He lives in the Black Hills of South Dakota, where his home and studio are based on geodesic domes.
